THE SONGS:
5. "I'll Be On My Way". This is the most fascinating
item of the programme, and for sure one of the highlights
of the Beatles' entire BBC career. It is a Lennon-McCartney
song which the Beatles gave to Billy J. Kramer and never
recorded for EMI. Billy J.'s recording at EMI took place
the same day as the Beatles' BBC session (April 4, 1963),
so it seems likely that the group tried out the song at the BBC
before giving it to the performer. When more than two months
later the programme was broadcast, Billy J. Kramer had already
scored number one in the charts! Track 3 apparently has not
been preserved |
